Two landmark NIH funded clinical studies—Age Related Eye-Disease Study (AREDS, 2001) and AREDS2 (2012)—revealed the critical role that nutrition plays in the development of AMD. These studies are notable in that they are the largest human clinical trials to evaluate the relationship between lutein and zeaxanthin to AMD. It was found that a higher intake of bioavailable lutein and zeaxanthin was associated with a reduced risk of progression from the intermediate to the advanced stages of AMD by as much as 35%.
Lutein and zeaxanthin—which are potent carotenoids primarily found in leafy green vegetables, such as kale, spinach, broccoli and collards—are thought to protect against AMD by reducing oxidative and photo-oxidative stress. Most people, however, do not get an adequate amount of lutein and zeaxanthin in their diet. For people who lack these nutrients, or who are experiencing the early stages of AMD, it is advisable to supplement with lutein and zeaxanthin.

I’m hoping it keeps my eyes dry forever. So far so good.
This is not an easy review since the outcomes are pretty hard to measure in the short term. My hope is that the product helps to reduce the chances of loosing my eyesight due to macular degeneration. I discovered that is imperative to take the capsules with lots of water to avoid stomach issues.

I started taking vista A reds2 upon my doctor's advice. I've had no problems but cannot say whether my macular degeneration is affected by using the product. I had a change in doctors but the new doctor continues to recommend Vista Areds2.
I have had trouble in the past with the Areds, but my eye doctor recommended you and when I called with my concerns the girl explained to me how the zinc content was much lower than the other products. Heat is always an issue and these were fine. But when really hot, the mailbox is not an option since ours faces west and the capsules don’t hold up.
