Male Hormones and Health

Mention the word “hormones” and many men will immediately recall their transformative teenage years. Thanks to increases in specific hormones released into the bloodstream—Growth Hormone (GH), DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone), and Testosterone (among others)—boys become men. This chemical cocktail triggers physiological changes, such as growth spurts, alterations in facial structure, and shifts in body shape and composition—e.g., shoulders broaden, muscle mass increases, and adiposity (fat) mass is reduced, resulting in a characteristic male “V” shape. These hormones simultaneously influence men’s psychology via changes in neural organization1 and action at the androgen receptors located in the limbic system (a group of interconnected brain structures that help regulate emotions and behavior) and other brain regions2. Typically, men become more competitive, risk tolerant, sensation seeking, and sexually driven1. Beyond growth and development, hormones regulate many other processes, such as metabolism, mood, and stress response.

Male Hormones and Health

As the years march on, many men find their once robust reserves of male hormones slowly waning. After peaking in the twenties, testosterone levels start falling around age 30, decreasing by approximately 1-2% per year3. Similarly, DHEA—which is an adrenal androgen and a precursor to other sex hormones—also declines after age 30 and may even accelerate after age 40—a phenomenon dubbed “adrenopause”4. The change is stealthy—often going unnoticed at first. Overtime, however, these changes add up. Large scale studies conducted by the NIH and other agencies have investigated how age-related changes in testosterone levels impact men’s health—for example, in the aptly named “T Trials”5. This and other studies have shown that testosterone levels are related to bone density5, muscle mass5,6,7, physical functioning7, quality of life7,8, and sexual functioning8.

As testosterone and DHEA levels naturally decline with age, many men may feel out of sync with their usual vitality. Symptoms such as muscle weakness, diminished endurance, fatigue and low libido underscore just how pivotal these hormones are to men's functioning and overall well-being.

Sexual Health & Well-Being

Whole body health is critical to living a long and happy life. However, certain health aspects are sometimes neglected due to embarrassment or societal taboos. It's best to discuss concerns regarding male hormones and sexual health with a qualified healthcare provider, despite the potential discomfort.

Men can further bolster their hormone balance by adopting a healthy lifestyle, which includes a nutrient-rich diet with ample protein, regular exercise and strength training, and minimizing alcohol consumption and avoiding smoking. Additionally, supplementation can play a pivotal role in maintaining a strong and balanced hormone profile.

VISTA® Advanced Max T Vital Formula

VISTA® Advanced Max T Vital Formula is for daily-use, designed to meet men’s distinct needs promoting a sense of youthfulness and revitalization*. Our proven ingredients work synergistically to safely and effectively promote a balanced hormonal environment to boost energy, improve circulation, and enhance libido10.* Who says that simply because a man is older and wiser, or sports a touch of gray and a distinguished look, he must lack vitality?

  • DHEA: Our advanced formula contains 25 mg of DHEA—the vital precursor to how the body naturally produces testosterone—keeping you feeling fit and energized10. Research supports the body’s own DHEA is important for a variety of bodily functions, including reducing inflammation, increasing blood flow, enhanced cellular immunity, body composition, sexual function, and physical strength10.* Naturally occurring DHEA may also provide neuroprotective benefits10.*
  • L-arginine: When Nitric Oxide (NO) levels are down, desire alone is not enough. NO is a neuromodulator and also a vasodilator that is critical for healthy blood circulation and sexual functioning11. That is why we’ve incorporated the amino acid L-arginine to boost the body’s production of NO11.* A clinical trial revealed that men given L-arginine supplements felt their sexual functioning improved afterward, particularly if they had low naturally low levels of NO production11.*
  • Herbal Additions: Throughout history, natural remedies have been sought after for promoting health—including sexual vigor and fertility.* Scientific studies investigating many of these herbs have revealed their therapeutic properties.
    • Maca Root: Maca Root (Lepidium meyenii) is native to the high altitudes of the Andean Mountains where it has been cultivated and used by indigenous populations for over 2000 years12 for various purposes including enhancing energy, mental clarity, and sexual functioning.* Maca root is packed full of phytonutrients and is considered an adaptogen—i.e., an herb that may help normalize bodily functions*. Research has shown that maca root is linked to enhanced libido through mechanisms that are independent of testosterone levels13.*
    • Ginkgo Biloba: This widely-used herb is derived from the leaves of the Ginkgo biloba tree—which is one of the oldest tree species on Earth—and has a rich history of use in Chinese medicine. Ginkgo biloba has antioxidant properties and has been associated with cognitive benefits since ancient times.* Research indicates that Ginkgo's health benefits may be attributed to its role as a vasorelaxant (allowing for increased blood flow) as well as enhancing nerve pulse strength which promotes the release of nitric oxide (NO)14.*
    • Ginseng: Ginseng (Panax ginseng Meyer) originating from Korea, is a popular herb known for supporting cardiovascular health15.* In animal models, ginseng has been linked to improve blood vessel health via increased vasodilation while also reducing oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory cytokines15.* In humans, an 8-week double-blind placebo-controlled study found ginseng improved circulation16.*
    • Horny Goat’s Weed: As the name suggests, Horny Goat’s Weed (various species of the genus Epimedium) is a Chinese herb, also known as “ying yang huo”, is associated with sexual health and libido.* A study in animal models found that the expression of neuronal nitric oxide synthase was higher in subjects given an extraction of Horny Goat’s Weed.*

VISTA® Advanced Max T Vital Formula combines these premium ingredients into a single convenient pill, offering men natural support for circulation, stamina, and to confidently rediscover that loving feeling.*
